Testing

TCC does not have an admissions test. 

Placement Tests

All new-to-college students are required to take a placement test to determine college readiness in reading, writing and mathematics before enrolling in restricted courses. 

The ACCUPLACER is the state-approved placement test offered at TCC. Students must satisfy the minimum passing standards (PDF opens in a new window) to satisfy Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and course prerequisite requirements.

Some students may be score exempt from placement testing based on TAKS, SAT, or ACT scores.

Some students may also qualify for a waiver or exception.

Tests Offered

Each campus provides a testing center and offers a variety of tests, which may include:

• ACCUPLACER
• Distance Learning testing
• College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Department Credit-by-Exam (CBE)
• General Education Development (GED)
• Nursing Admission Assessment Exam, HESI A-2

Other Testing Services include:

• Advanced Placement (AP) petition for TCC course credit

Guidelines

• A government-issued photo ID is mandatory! 
  Examples: driver’s license, passport, military ID or high school ID
• All electronic devices—including cell phones—must be turned off and stored outside of the testing site.
• Pencils and scratch paper will be provided.
